UK government launches Cyber Resilience Pledge with 60+ signatories

The UK government has launched a Cyber Resilience Pledge, with more than 60 organisations including Marks & Spencer, Microsoft UK and Vodafone signing up. The voluntary scheme is designed to improve the cyber resilience of British businesses, particularly medium and large organisations.

Signatories commit to actions such as implementing Cyber Essentials and improving supply chain security. The government hopes the pledge will have a wider impact by encouraging suppliers to adopt the Cyber Essentials framework, though only around 35,000 of over five million UK businesses are currently certified.

The pledge is part of a broader government push on cyber resilience, alongside a new Cyber Security and Resilience Bill and a Cyber Governance Code of Practice. Microsoft UK CEO Darren Hardman said the company is proud to sign the pledge and will use AI to help defend the UK’s critical national infrastructure and businesses.
