Trump names Jay Clayton to lead new federal AI task force

President Donald Trump has appointed Jay Clayton, his director of national intelligence, to lead a new federal task force on artificial intelligence. Trump is calling the body the “Super Intelligence Force”, part of his effort to rebrand AI as “super intelligence”.
The task force will coordinate federal work on the technology and will engage consumers, public interest groups, religious organisations, critical infrastructure providers and AI companies. Its members include Federal Trade Commission chairman Andrew Ferguson, Pentagon chief technology officer Emil Michael and Office of Personnel Management director Scott Kupor. The group reports to Trump and chief of staff Susie Wiles.
The announcement follows a White House meeting last week between Trump and senior AI company executives, who signed a voluntary accord intended to self-police development of the technology.
