Tenable urges cryptographic inventory to counter quantum computing threat

Why a cryptographic inventory is key for addressing the quantum computing threat
Image: Tenable

Tenable has published guidance arguing that organisations need a comprehensive cryptographic inventory to address the threat posed by quantum computing. The company highlights the ‘harvest now, decrypt later’ tactic, where adversaries steal encrypted data today in the hope of decrypting it once quantum computers mature.

The article points to Executive Order 14412, which mandates federal agencies and contractors to migrate to post-quantum cryptography by 2030 and 2031. Tenable recommends a phased approach covering discovery, prioritisation, remediation and verification, and says its Tenable One platform can provide the necessary visibility.
