Sumo Logic expands Data Pipelines to cut observability and security data costs

Sumo Logic has expanded its Data Pipelines service, giving security and operations teams controls to filter and reroute telemetry before it is ingested and stored. The company said it processes close to seven exabytes of data a day for thousands of customers, and that AI workloads are driving collection volumes higher.

The release adds a live preview that shows what a rule will do to a stream before it is switched on, including routing data to a cheaper tier or outside Sumo Logic, plus an assistant that writes the rules. Anomalies and format shifts are flagged as they appear, and recommendations on what to route, transform or drop still require human approval.

Chief product and technology officer Keith Kuchler said moving data strategy decisions upstream lets teams set the purpose of their data before paying to keep it. Sumo Logic, owned by Francisco Partners since a $1.7bn take-private in 2023, said a visual AI-assisted telemetry shaping tool and an OpenTelemetry-native management layer are planned for later this year.
