Chainguard argues financial services should modernise the software supply chain first

Chainguard has published a contributed article arguing that financial services firms should modernise their software supply chain before attempting broader application modernisation. The company says frontier models can now read code, find dormant weaknesses and chain them together faster than teams can investigate and patch, collapsing the gap between known and practically exploitable vulnerabilities.
The piece cites a shift in the threat landscape, saying vulnerability exploitation has overtaken phishing as the leading initial access vector for breaches in financial services, and that more than half of financial services vendors carry at least one high-severity CVE.
Chainguard’s pitch is that hardened, minimal container images and open source libraries can be continuously rebuilt so avoidable vulnerabilities never enter the environment, and that security fixes can be backported into older language runtimes and frameworks so compatibility is preserved. The article was written by Matt Stead, a product marketing manager at the company.
